Destination wedding pros and cons
To travel or not to travel…
Destination weddings have become increasingly popular over the years, and for good reason. A destination wedding allows you to exchange vows in a beautiful location, surrounded by your loved ones. However, before you decide to have a destination wedding, it's important to consider the pros and cons. In this post, we'll explore both sides.
Pros of a destination wedding:
Unique experience: A destination wedding provides a unique experience for you and your guests. It allows you to explore a new place, create unforgettable memories, and potentially opens up dates that wouldn’t be as ideal in your hometown. And if you and your fiance aren’t from the same place originally, most likely some family will have to travel regardless, so why not host a unique experience for everyone?
Less stressful: A destination wedding can be less stressful than a traditional wedding. Many resorts offer all-inclusive wedding packages, which means that you won't have to worry about planning every single detail. My husband and I had a destination wedding and they sold me when they said that all we’d really have to do was show up, because they provided all of the food, decor, and staff.
Intimate celebration: Destination weddings are often smaller, more intimate affairs. This can be a great way to spend quality time with your closest family and friends, for a longer amount of time.
Picturesque locations: Destination weddings are often held in picturesque locations like beaches, mountaintops, or vineyards. This provides a stunning backdrop for your wedding photos.
Cons of a destination wedding:
Travel expenses: A destination wedding can be costly for your guests. They will need to pay for flights, hotels, rental cars, and other travel expenses.
Limited guest list: Due to travel expenses and time constraints, not everyone you hope to be there, may be able to make it work. This can be difficult, especially if you have certain expectations around who will be there.
Legal considerations: Getting married in another state or country can involve legal considerations and paperwork. This can mean you need to travel to the location prior to your wedding week to ensure that you have completed the paperwork process correctly.
Less control: If you choose to have a destination wedding, you may have less control over the details. This can be difficult if you're someone who likes to plan every detail.
Destination weddings have their pros and cons. They can provide a unique and intimate experience for you and your guests, but they can also be costly and limit your guest list. Ultimately, the decision to have a destination wedding comes down to personal preference and priorities. If you're considering a destination wedding, be sure to weigh the pros and cons and make a decision that's right for you.
